If you had the opportunity to get in touch with the supernatural — and get paid for it — you would probably be psyched. Especially if it meant acting amongst the likes of Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) and Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood).  Not the case with Taylor Kinney, who had some serious reservations when joining the cast of The Vampire Diaries as Tyler’s mysterious Uncle Mason.

“There's always a bit of trepidation in taking on a new role,” Kinney explained recently to DigitalSpy.com, “and especially for something supernatural like The Vampire Diaries because I haven't really gone there before."

The handsome actor, who previously starred on the NBC show Trauma, introduced his character Mason Lockwood during Season 2’s premiere. However, before taping began, Kinney admitted he was nervous that his character’s werewolf metamorphosis would look phony.

"You have this long list of questions," he said. "How are you going to do this, how are you going to do that? So I talked with the executive producers and the showrunners and was definitely reassured that there wasn't going to be some ridiculous transformation where I have to wear hair extensions."

Although he was satisfied enough with the showrunners’ explanation to film his transformation scenes, Kinney cannot entirely endorse the metamorphosis since he hasn’t watched them yet... but he is certain of one thing: "I know it's going to be high quality stuff." Based on what we’ve seen so far, we totally agree.
