You caught us. We totally still read Cosmopolitan, despite the backlash we inevitably receive from our friends (in our defense, we turn to Vogue and Vanity Fair first). But in the mag’s defense, sometimes there’s a gem or two within the glossy’s fluffy reporting – like this recent feature on The Vampire DiariesIan Somerhalder (Damon), named one of Cosmo’s Fun Fearless Males of 2011.

We adore Ian partly because he is wickedly beautiful, but also because he’s impressively smart and undeniably charming. In this short piece, Ian dishes about the adorb way he impresses his lady of choice, reveals his dating deal breaker, and more. We think it’s safe to say we’re fallen even more in love with him. Is it possible to compel someone through the pages of a magazine?

Cosmo: What’s the hardest part about playing a vampire?
Night shoots. We’re all up working until 7 a.m., then we sleep all day and go back to work at night. It kicks our asses.

Cosmo: How do you impress a girl?
I cook for her. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. It’s the same way with women... or at least the ones I want to be with. And I once flew to Paris to see someone for a matter of hours –– just to have lunch. [Editor’s note: Swoon.]

Cosmo: What’s a dating deal breaker for you?
Someone who hates animals. I work with the Humane Society a lot and have three rescue cats. I don’t care how hot a girl is — if she doesn’t like animals, it would be a major, major problem.

Cosmo: Describe the most fearless thing you’ve ever done.
Shark diving in South Africa. Being in an 8-by-8-foot cage supsended over 3,000 feet of water with huge sharks swimming around is intense.

Cosmo: Do you have any hidden talents?
I can write with absolutely perfect penmanship with my feet. If I broke my arms, I could still write a girl a love letter using just my toes.

Well Ian, lucky for you, we’ve got bottomless pits for stomachs – and own two cats. Whaddya say? You available Saturday night?
