If you’re suffering from sleeplessness, irritability, and lank, unfloppy hair, you may just have Elijah (Daniel Gillies) Withdrawal Syndrome. Don’t worry, Vampire Diaries fans; there’s a cure. Gillies’s new show, Saving Hope, premieres on NBC on June 7, and he previewed what we can expect from the medical drama on NBC.

“I would hesitate to call him a narcissist, but I think he’s somebody who fairly vehemently puts himself at the center of his own universe,” Gillies says of his character Joel Goran. The hotshot surgeon arrives at Hope-Zion Hospital just as the chief of surgery, Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), ends up in a coma. His fiancée, Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance), works furiously to save him alongside Joel. Of course, things get complicated.

“He has a history with Erica Durance’s character Alex Reid,” says Gillies. “They were sort of former lovers [and] … that energy has never really sort of entirely diminished between them.”

There’s also a supernatural element to the doctors’ drama. Harris roams the hospital in spirit form as his body lies comatose.

Things could complicated if Reid and Goran decide to rekindle their romance with a ghostly specter looking on…
