If you weren’t able to make it to Atlanta Georgia for the March 2013 Eyecon convention, don’t worry. A few attendees managed to capture some moments on film. Of course, it’s not quite the same as being there and getting your picture taken with the cast of The Vampire Diaries, but we’ll take what we can get.

Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) was on hand to answer fan questions. As usual, there were some quality queries for the actor and activist. One of our favorites was from a fan who asked if Ian had ever read LJ Smith’s books, which the TV series are based on.

“I have. I’ve read a couple of them,” said Ian. “When I got into the second book, I realized that it’s really just kind of a skeleton, you know, of the story that in order for us to get six years or a hundred-plus episodes out of it that the books were just gonna be sort of a skeleton, a basis for the stories. So naturally they’ve changed and altered a lot. Some parts of the book that were really concrete were never used. I realized, you know what, I’m not gonna judge. I don’t even want to know, going forward. But maybe one day one day when I’m stuck on a deserted island, I’ll listen to the books on tape.”

Hey, whatever they have to do to get six seasons and a movie! For more of Ian’s answers, check out the videos below.
