Ian Somerhalder was blessed with a face destined to be seen by many. Have you seen his eyes?

Good-looking people often become actors, but how did Ian end up on the path to eventually becoming Damon Salvatore, the vampire we both love and hate on the Vampire Diaries?

It may come as no surprise to know that Ian started out as a model. From the age of 10, he was posing for the likes of Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana. He eventually dropped out of high school to pursue a modeling career in Europe, treavling to cities like Paris and Milan.

When he was 17, Ian landed in New York to study acting and worked with renowned coach Willam Esper, who’s taught the likes of Aaron Eckhart and Kathy Bates.

He made his TV debut with a small part on crime drama The Big Easy in 1997, and had first real taste of the big screen as extra in the 1999 film Black & White, which starred Robert Downey Jr. and Brooke Shields. But Ian's big break came when he was cast as Hamilton Fleming in the short-lived Dawson’s Creek spin-off Young Americans.

The rest, as they say, is history!
