Whether you’re a fan of the sinister schoolteacher or think he’s just a creepy hypnotist, Professor Shane (David Alpay) isn’t going to be chased out of Mystic Falls that easily.

There’s a lot unfolding with Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) Expression, a dozen un-sired hybrids, and a metric ton of spirit tea. The plan has been a slow burn, starting with the Town Council’s untimely demise, followed by Connor’s (Todd Williams) arrival, and now New Orleans witches who dabbled in bad juju. Don’t expect to find it tied up with a pretty bow under your Winter Wonderland tree in Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 9, “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

If you were hoping Shane would be among the “mass casualties” being taken out in the episode, we have to disappoint you. First, we’re guessing a lot of those who get snuffed will be the 12 hybrids. Second, David Alpay was still on the TVD set this week, meaning he’ll appear in at least three or four episodes in the new year. He tweeted, “spent all day yesterday at mystic falls. spent the night dreaming about it #tvd #spooky.”

Plus, Bonnie’s dad is coming into the picture, threatening Shane’s job after he sees the prof meddling with Bonnie. He may not be much help against vampires and hybrids, but Rudy Owens sounds like he has the protective father schtick down pat!
