Forget Grammys and Emmys (and Teen Choice Awards), The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder (Damon) has a hankering for a different kind of honor — a Nobel Prize!

Ian has set his sights on scoring the epic award for a scientist he met in April when he jetted off to Zimbabwe. Allan Savory is a research biologist who Ian says has “figured out a way to reverse climate change, literally through agriculture.” Somerhalder explained to E!, “ I'm directing this documentary about him with Geoff Shotz, our camera director on Vampire Diaries . . . The goal of the movie is to win Allan Savory a Nobel Prize for agriculture, which has never been done.”

We think he just might have a chance. Ian, who testified before Congress just last month in defense of wildlife conservation, is no stranger to persuading people to help the environment. Plus, he’s even scheduled to interview former president Jimmy Carter for the doc.

And speaking of former (vice) presidents...

"You look at things like An Inconvenient Truth, which Al Gore did, it never once mentions [how] agriculture contributes more to climate change than anything else in the world," he said. "It makes me crazy to think about, so we're going to change that."

How noble!
