Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder (Damon) is an environmental crusader. When he’s not busy making a hit TV show, he likes to throw his energy into good causes — which is where RYOT comes in. The online news site gives readers the chance to respond to the content they’re consuming and make an impact.
“I’m so excited to be joining RYOT’s advisory board — this site is going to fundamentally change the way we think about news consumption,” Ian said in a statement. “It’s time for people to expect more from their news. With RYOT, you’re making a difference just by visiting the site and you’re given the choice to actually do something about what you read.”
Today, Ian tweeted a picture of himself at the RYOT offices, posing with co-founder Bryn Mooser and Molly DeWolf Swenson. It was his first stop after landing in California this morning. “Love it here!!!!!” he wrote with his typical enthusiasm. He’d spent the weekend in Barcelona at a TVD convention, but he was back at work on one of his passion projects without a break.
Every article on RYOT.org has an action-box that sends readers to an organization associated with the cause. If you’re moved by a particular story, you can click on the link and make a donation or find out more about how you can become involved fighting for a particular cause.
Way to help make it easy for people to get involved, Ian!
