Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder had a special cause for concern this week as the Gulf Coast was hit by Hurricane Isaac: His family lives in the impacted town of Mandeville, Louisiana.
Ian was first affected by the storms on Monday as airlines began to shut down flights to the Louisiana area. He tweeted that because of the coming storm he wasn’t able to get down there and help protect Ian Somerhalder Foundation sanctuary land from potential destruction by development.
Then on Wednesday, Ian tweeted concern for his loved ones, writing “Screw you Hurricane Isaac- leave my family and my home alone please...”
Ian came back the next day to share updates about what happened to his hometown, writing, “My home town of Mandeville,LA is flooded like crazy, our new pizzeria will take a hit but we'll be slinging dough and feeding peeps soon!”
Ian then shared a glimpse at the view from his pizzeria on Lake Ponchartrain (he and his sister and brother-in-law also own the gourmet McClain’s Pizzeria near Sun Valley, Idaho) and noted, “[b]elow that water are the streets I grew up on.”
We’re just happy that it looks like Ian’s loved ones are safe!
