There’s nothing we’d like to see more than Vampire DiariesIan Somerhalder (Damon) and a big piece of hardwood. It’s for charity! Get your minds out of the gutter, vamp lovers! Geez, sometimes we really question your morals.

The reason Ian is all about wood these days — Out. of. the. gutter. — is because of a new collaboration with his brother and nephew called Built of Barnwood.

The organization aims to reuse wood from barns destroyed after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and the Vampire Diaries star needs your help in gaining much needed funds.

“I began cleanup, and it just came to us,” Ian’s brother, Bob Somerhalder, said in his pitch to the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest. “Why not turn these debilitated barns into something? Create beauty out of what's already here. Create a sustainable business. My family does all the work. We reclaim, reuse, and recycle the old into something new.”

The business is green and sustainable, which means it’s healthy for the environment, and a percentage of all profits goes toward charity. But they currently function out of a small store in Mississippi and are looking to expand.

“First thing we would do is invest in a larger workshop to accommodate the demand for our items,” Bob explained. “We would invest in new tools...The grant would help us accommodate our customers.”

So, if Built for Barnwood sounds like a small business you want to support, then vote for it in the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest. Do it for Ian’s wood, if nothing else.

Out of the gutter!
