Yes, we’re still crying over tonight’s episode, “Crying Wolf.” We can’t help it! Of course, we’re talking about Tyler’s untimely exit from Mystic Falls, as he decided leave with Jules and the wolf pack. So, the big question is, will Tyler be back? Michael Trevino, who plays Tyler, spoke with Zap2it about that very question, and the answer isn’t so cut and dry. In fact, it’s a big fat “maybe.” For one, he wasn’t killed off. And the werewolf curse is still out there, which means the pack will most likely need to return to Mystic Falls.
"It was just too much for him," Trevino said of Tyler’s exit. "Too many cooks in the kitchen, really, because everybody was just trying to get in his head. He's still really lost at that point, and very vulnerable. He needed to leave."
"We've told the transformation story already," said executive producer Julie Plec. "Now he's moving on to the next part of his journey, which is, 'How do I live like this for the rest of my life?' The way that it all fell out, the first part of Tyler's journey ended right when we had a lot to focus on with Elijah and the witches and imminent arrival of Klaus, so we figured it was a good time to give him that hero's goodbye."
So was Tyler’s goodbye a surprise for Trevino? "I knew that there was going to be this battle with the vampires and the werewolves, I knew that somebody was going to have to go," he said. "And when they said it was going to be me, I was kind of like, 'Okay... interesting.'"
Trevino himself is not sure if Tyler will be back, but it’s clear that he’s hoping his vacation won’t last too long. "Now my mind's going crazy because I'm wondering what's in store now. When and if Tyler were to come back, either at all, or this season, or maybe he doesn't come back until Season 3 - how's he going to be? How much of a changed person is he going to be?"
