If you’ve seen even one episode of The Vampire Diaries, you know dead bodies can pile up like an LA freeway. In fact, one of the main characters, Alaric (Matt Davis), has died eight times alone. But is TVD the show with the highest body count on air right now?

Not according to Funeralwise.com. The website surveyed eight episodes of 400 shows at the start of fall, and they found that Starz’s Spartacus: Vengeance is the bloodiest series on TV. The drama, which is set in the Roman Empire, has an average of 25 deaths each episode. When it comes to nonhuman deaths, however, TVD took the top spot with its 18 vampire-deaths average. (Walking Dead only killed off 16 zombies per episode.)

So this was a fun, in-depth study, but what’s the point? The New York Daily News spoke with Funeralwise.com’s managing partner Rick Paskin, who said, “There is a clear disconnect between the acceptance of death in popular culture and the acceptance of it in reality.”

Yeah, we’d say it’s much easier to accept death on Vampire Diaries — especially since characters routinely come back from the dead.
