Since there is no real Mystic Falls Gazette, we took the liberty of making an obituary for one of our favorite TVD characters. R.I.P. Jenna!
Jenna Sommers, a masters student at Collins University, died on May 5. She was 29 years old. Although Ms. Sommers was born and raised in Mystic Falls, she had moved away for several years to attend college and graduate school. She returned to her home town several months ago to care for her niece and nephew, Elena and Jeremy Gilbert, after the siblings’ parents died in a car crash. Miranda and Grayson Gilbert were pillars of the community, and Ms. Sommers did not hesitate in volunteering to become the legal guardian for her sister’s children.
Ms. Sommers attended Mystic Falls High School for her secondary education, and her English teacher Mrs. Primrose remembers her as a bright pupil with a promising future. “Jenna was always inquisitive, if a bit mischievous. I still remember her unusually optimistic take one Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises.” That academic success was continued when Ms. Sommers took a B.A. in psychology at the University of Virginia and pursued her masters degree in psychology at Collins University.
A fellow graduate student at Collins, Maria Vasquez, describes Ms. Sommers as immensely perceptive in her psychological studies, saying, “Jenna always had the most amazing insight into people. She would know something was wrong almost before you did. A lot changed when her older sister died; she became very lost in her own world. I think she withdrew a bit and lost some of her sense of fun and her carefree attitude.”
In a short statement, Ms. Sommers’ family said, “Jenna was a warm and wonderful person who helped us when no one else could. We are devastated by her loss. She will be greatly missed.”
Services for Ms. Sommers were held over the weekend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.
