The kids of Mystic Falls might’ve been raising a glass to the notion of a “Klaus-free life,” but Joseph Morgan isn’t so eager for his character to disappear. He hopes he’ll return to cause some more mayhem — or perhaps just to schmooze Caroline (Candice Accola) — in The Vampire Diaries’ fourth season.

In Season 3, Episode 21, “Before Sunset,” Klaus’ body was desiccated (not permanently, but potentially for a while), so the character’s future is a little hazy at the moment. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about The Vampire Diaries over the last three seasons, it’s that anything can happen. New supernatural rules are made up all the time allowing for characters to come and go at the writers’ whimsy.

In fact, Joseph warns that anyone could be killed off. “The truth is none of us know, not Nina [Dobrev], not Paul [Wesley] , not Ian [Somerhalder]. We all get our contracts renewed during the break,” he told 24 Hours Vancouver. “I’m not ready to be done with the character yet. I hope he’s sticking around for a little while, but that’s really up to [the producers].”

Troublesome though Klaus might be for the show’s heroes Elena, Stefan, and Damon, fans have come to fancy both Joseph and Klaus quite a bit. Perhaps it’d be worth enduring another season of Original-based tension to keep them around.
