The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring back people from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without the blink of the eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 10, “The New Deal.”

bRing it
Super-sleuth Elena notices her bro Jeremy has left his plus-one-life ring on his dinner plate, realizes he’s run out into the street, puts two and two together, and runs after him — after dropping the ring back onto the plate. Ugh. It actually took longer to leave the ring than it did to take it with, and she could’ve jammed it onto the compulsion-brained emo boy’s finger.

Not that kind of hybrid car
We all know the magical ring that brings the wearer back from the dead only works when death comes at the hands of a supernatural — or at the grill of a hybrid’s vehicle. It’s a bit of a stretch to assume that because the car that mowed down Alaric (Matt Davis) was driven by Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) supernatural minion, the ring’s rules apply. Maybe that’s why he was hacking up blood, but we kind of doubt it.

What a waste of a hybrid’s head
Jeremy went six kinds of deer hunter on Klaus’ hybrid, hacking off his noggin with a meat cleaver. (Someone’s going to have bad dreams in Colorado!) But why didn’t Jer put his killer instinct on ice for thirty seconds and dribble some of the dude’s blood into the dying Alaric? Oh, right. Because then he wouldn’t have needed to go to the hospital and meet Dr. Meredith. We see what ya did there, guys.

What medical school did you go to again?
We’re sure Dr. Fell didn’t go to the Dr. Nick School of Medicine, but her first question to Alaric should’ve been, “When you were in that coma, did you feel your brain getting damaged?” Instead, she merely batted her lashes and asked, “What’s your secret?” Why didn’t she just slip him her phone number and invite him for a drink — if Meredith was paying, Alaric probably would’ve said yes.
