The news that The CW pulled Cult from its schedule angered the show’s fans. The network hasn’t announced whether the remaining episodes will be available for viewing online, leaving viewers stranded.
They weren’t the only ones upset by The CW’s decision. Star Matt Davis took to Twitter to express his frustration over the announcement. “Good news Cult fans! Cult has been renewed for the next ten season due to its brilliant marketing campaign! Good job everyone,” he tweeted.
Then he added, “All joking aside, thank you to all who watched. It was a wonderful learning experience, and exciting misadventure. On to bigger the better!”
Zap2It agrees “the marketing push behind Cult was negligible at best.” The show never managed to pull in a substantial number of viewers. It was quickly moved from Tuesdays after Hart of Dixie to Fridays, where it still failed to find an audience despite its better pairing with Nikita.
The Cult writers’ Twitter response was a little more subdued than Matt’s; “sigh — we see the news is out, we just heard this morning. will let folks know if we hear anything about the last episodes airing. #cult,” they wrote.
This isn’t the first time Matt has used Twitter to express his dismay over a show’s direction. When he appeared on The Vampire Diaries, he lamented some recent developments for his character Alaric Saltzman.
