While we’re all sad that hunky (and, on occasion, hairy) Tyler Lockwood skipped town (seriously, come back soon!) — we’re actually pretty excited to see what this means for Caroline and Matt, who have yet to talk things out.

“He [Tyler] had been consuming her time — obviously she had his back and he didn’t have hers, and he’s been the one standing in between her opportunities with Matt,” Candice Accola (Caroline) tells TV Line. The trust is definitely broken with Tyler, and we gotta say we’d love to see Caroline back with the strawberry blonde cutie. And, as we spoiled before, this week’s episode finds Caroline and Matt in a potentially romantic sitch. “... At least they’ll have an opportunity for a potential honest conversation,” Candice teases. “And that’s all I can say.” Aw, come on!

Okay, so in a perfect world Caroline and Matt would be all roses-and-chocolates together, but in Mystic Falls, things aren’t quite so simple. Could the two ever really be together if Matt doesn’t know Caroline’s big secret? Or could that all be solved if Matt were just clued in? “On one hand, it’s a vampire show so what fun is it if the secret is out and everyone knows about it? [Laughs] The show needs that conflict of people being in the dark,” Candice says.

Well, there’s one thing that everybody — not just poor old human Matt — is in the dark about: Who the producers will decide needs to bite the dust next. “Day one of us all getting to Atlanta, we were very plainly told that we’re on a vampire show and characters will be killed off — that’s just the premise. So it’s been in the back of our minds, but it’s hard,” she says. She adds: “Everyone’s just so wonderful to be around so it’d be unfortunate. When you’re part of a series, you become such a close-knit family... it’s sad and difficult, but at the same time we know that it’s coming — although we really don’t know who it’s going to be. We feel the anticipation just as much as the audience does.”

And there you have it, kids!
