The CW upfronts took place a few weeks ago, and Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) still hadn’t seen The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale. Yet when she spoke to Us Weekly, she still had some insight into what viewers can expect from her character in Season 4.

“I’m vampire squared now,” said Nina. While before she divided her time between Elena the human and Katherine the vampire, starting next fall, she’ll be all vampire, all the time. “Now I have to try and make Elena a vampire, but a cool, yet different, vampire,” she said. That will be her biggest challenge, she thinks, is keeping them distinctive enough. However, Elena will be coping with completely different issues, because Dobrev thinks she will “struggle with keeping her humanity.”

How she handles the transition will be a big part of the beginning of Season 4, Nina has said. Whether she just has a hard time keeping to the bunny diet or we get to see glimpses of Ripper Elena remains to be seen…
