Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) has definitely caught wind of all the hype surrounding the S&M book series 50 Shades of Grey, which is currently being prepped for a big, racy movie translation.

Her rumored boyfriend and Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) has previously expressed his interest in the project, saying that he’d be delighted to take on the, well, bossy and sexy Christian Grey character.

As for whether Nina might go after the female lead Anastasia Steele alongside Ian, Nina said she doesn’t think it’d be such a good idea. “I think it’s best for any of the actors on The Vampire Diaries to kind of do their own things and create new characters,” Nina told MTV. Otherwise, “fans will… see me as Elena and they’ll see him as Damon if we do a film together.”

Nina thinks that either one or the other should approach the film, and since she’s never read the books and knows that Ian’s a fan-favorite for the part of Christian, she hopes he’ll be the one to land the role.

Well, darn. Ever since Stefan (Paul Wesley) won over Elena’s heart in the Season 3 finale episode of TVD, we’ve been kinda crossing our fingers that Nina and Ian might re-team for some on-screen heat somewhere else. Oh well. At least we know they’re sharing smooches somewhere!
