If you can’t wait for the ‘20s to come roaring onto your screen tonight, here’s a rundown of everything you can expect from Season 3, Episode 3, “The End of the Affair.”
Stefan gets seriously scary with Elena
Nina Dobrev (Elena) tells TV Line that tonight’s 1920s flashback episode includes “almost a Rihanna-like abuse twist” involving Stefan (Paul Wesley). Don’t worry: the coiffed cutie isn’t throwing punches at his lady love. Nina explains, “It has nothing to do with that physically, but emotionally it feels like Elena is abused.”
TV Line’s Megan Masters calls the moment heartbreaking. We can imagine.
Still, Nina maintains there’s a bright side. “Because of what happens with Stefan, she learns how to fight and become a warrior,” says Nina. “This is the season where Elena stops letting the boys in her life dictate what happens.”
Bust out your best fangs and get ready to say hello to some new characters. According to TV Line, Stefan’s devious ex Rebekah/Bex will pop up not only in 1920s Chicago flashbacks but also in the present day. While she’s apparently “likable,” TV Line admits this bloodsucker is basically bad news. Maybe that’s because, as Julie Plec told TV Line earlier, “she’s a mirror for [Stefan], a reminder of how sometimes being bad wasn’t so bad at all.”
Caroline gets some sun
As for the other newbie, we first caught a shocking glimpse of Caroline’s (Candice Accola) dad, Bill, in last week’s episode, but tonight we’ll see him front and center as the vampire hunter inflicts some extreme torture on his own baby girl. This guy means business! TV Line also teases that Candice delivers an impressive performance — reminiscent of Michael Trevino’s (Tyler Lockwood) gut-wrenching werewolf transformation scene — after a “bout of sun exposure.” Ouchie.
