Maybe there’s another restaurant in Mystic Falls besides the Grill where other residents hang out, but we haven’t seen it yet on The Vampire Diaries. It’s a hard town to find love in (at least love that lasts longer than a few episodes), and maybe it has something to do with the type of guys who reside there. They tend to fall into the following five categories, and wouldn’t you know, they all have issues.
The sweetheart with complicated issues
See: Stefan Salvatore
Traits: Loyalty, broodiness, relapses
This guy will let you be independent and make your own choices, even if means you’re making a tragic mistake. It’s okay; he’ll still love you. You might be dead, but he’ll still love you. To deal with the sensitive soul, you need patience. Although he seems perfect, there are demons lurking beneath the surface that he struggles to keep at bay. Just feed him a daily diet of a few trickles of your own blood, and you’re well on your way to a healthy romance.
The arrogant jerk with complicated issues
See: Klaus Mikaelson
Traits: Poutiness, charm, wanderlust
If you don’t mind taking on a whole family, this is the guy for you. He is close to his kin, but he’ll probably abandon them for a decade or two to show you the sights from Abuja to Zanzibar. Just watch your step. He’s quite moody. And don’t let his pet names fool you. He calls everyone “sweetheart.” Mind your manners and, as long as wanton destruction doesn’t concern you, this mercurial character could be yours.
The snarky bad boy with complicated issues
See: Damon Salvatore
Traits: Sarcasm, protectiveness, yearning
If you think relationships shouldn’t be easy, then maybe you should couple up with this hottie. Any time he gets hurt, he’s likely to bite back, right where it hurts. Of course, he’s quick with a joke and fun to be around, but he can get dark and depressed. But who doesn’t? No matter what, he’ll be on your side. But while he might remain loyal, he won’t remain lonely, so don’t be surprised if he’s not flying solo the next time you see him.
The angry jock with complicated issues
See: Tyler Lockwood
Traits: Bravery, fidelity, transience
Because he’s not often introspective, moments of insight tend to have a big impact on this guy. While he’s usually self-assured (bordering on cockiness), his anger can get the best of him. Independence is a big deal for him. Having someone to tame this lone wolf is beneficial to his nature, as he tends to get out of control with no one to rein him in. Just don’t let the leash out too far with this one.
The boy next door with complicated issues
See: Matt Donovan
Traits: Stability, sweetness, loneliness
Whoever said nice guys finish last could’ve been referring to this guy. While no one has a bad word to say about him, it isn’t often he’s the center of attention. He isn’t one to unload his problems on those around him. Instead, you can usually find help others. Sometimes it takes him awhile to warm up to new ideas, but he sees the good in almost everyone. Maybe you’ve overlooked this guy in the past, but you’re ready to look for something new in him. But please, keep him away from the swimming pool.
