The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring back people from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without the blink of the eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 3, “The End of the Affair.”

4. Klaus has old-man vampire hearing
Elena’s happily hidden away in Stefan’s serial killer cupboard when The Ripper finds her there, looking all dewy eyed at her murderous beau. But Klaus, the biggest, baddest vampire we’ve met so far doesn’t hear the gasp emitted by the doppelganger whose non-death foiled all his hybridization attempts? Doubtful. Unless, for some reason, Klaus didn’t want to spoil story time with Stefan to embark upon yet another curse breaking adventure.

3. Stefan has a cleaning lady?
Elena discerns that Stefan and Klaus aren’t crashing at his Chicago murder pad from the inch of dust covering his table. It’s been over half a century since the Ripper’s been home to roost, and there are no cobwebs and only a fine layer of dirt on his belongings? Please, that place was cleaner than our apartment!

2.  Gloria’s bar doubles as a scrapbook
When Damon waltzes into Gloria’s, she laments the bad news duo that is Klaus and Stefan. Yet she kept their photo behind the bar all these years? Wouldn’t that gang of wooden-bullet-packing vampire hunters have confiscated it so they wouldn’t have to rely on the pencil-and-paper rendering of Klaus anymore?

1. Damon is utterly irresponsible
Damon “I hide valuable moonstones in soap dishes” Salvatore isn’t known for his brilliant ideas. But really? Leaving Elena in Stefan’s apartment when he knows Team Ripper is in Chicago is just moronic. What? Chicago doesn’t have a Starbucks or a library where she can curl up to read Stefan’s journals? (Note: Just because he admitted it was a bad idea later doesn’t make it any less of a logic fail.)
