Klaus (Joseph Morgan) had a rough time in The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 18, “American Gothic.” He was suffering from Silas’s mental torture, including when the ancient immortal disguised himself as Caroline (Candice Accola) — Klaus’s would-be lady love.

Fearnet has an interview with Joseph Morgan about Klaus’s future with Caroline (Candice Accola), which of his siblings the hybrid is still on good terms with, and what the OV makes of big, bad Silas.

Joseph says it’s significant that Klaus called Caroline instead of his siblings when he needed someone the most in the last episode. “Klaus wants to believe he is, that he is someone capable of love. We’ll see how it plays out, but he’s definitely on board with the idea of being with her,” he explains.

Both Klaus and Caroline began to realize just how dangerous Silas could be once he fooled the Original into thinking he was dying. Silas will definitely remain a threat; according to Joseph, “Klaus always likes to be the Alpha. He likes to be the strongest in the room and the most powerful. It’s worrying for him that there is a being out there capable of not only killing him, but making him believe he was dying.”

Although Klaus didn’t reach out to his brother and sister during his white oak freakout, there’s still a family reunion in the works. While Klaus might not be overly excited to see Rebekah (Claire Holt) — “They’ve been at odds since she destroyed his ability to create any more hybrids,” Joseph points out — Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is a different story. Klaus has missed his brother. Plus, everyone’s always happy to see Elijah. “I always say this family is one that can do horrible things to each other, as long as no one else does anything to them. Then, suddenly, you’ll see how close they really are,” says Joseph.

We look forward to more of the family bonding — and squabbling — in The Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals, which airs April 25.
