The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring people back from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without blinking an eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 4, Episode 12, “A View to a Kill.”

Bonnie dawdles with her parents
Knowing full well that Elena (Nina Dobrev) was wrangling with Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), Bonnie (Kat Graham) chose to bicker with her parents over Expression. We get that she hadn’t seen Abby in a while, but shouldn’t she have tried to head to the Gilberts’ ASAP?

Kol and the cleaver
Kol was a big, bad ancient vampire — one of the world’s oldest. Yet he was felled by a newbie bloodsucker and a hunter who had trouble killing a bar full of baby vamps? The OV should’ve been able to easily shake off Elena, right?

Why is Elena still alive?
But why was she allowed to participate in the fight in the first place? Kol merely slowed her down by impaling her to the wall. Any self-respecting OV should’ve just killed her outright. He told Klaus (Joseph Morgan) he was going to do as much.

Kol keeps his most-prized possession in grabbing range.
It’s basically the only thing that can do Kol in — and he carries it around in his pocket? The Original should’ve burned it, buried it in his backyard, or locked it in a safety deposit box. Tucking it into his jacket pocket in snatching-distance of his enemies was not smart, to put it mildly.

When did Damon drink that vervain water?
Normally, vamps aren’t too fond of vervain-laced drinks and spit them out accordingly. Apparently Damon (Ian Somerhalder) managed to choke some down despite having Klaus (Joseph Morgan) as a babysitter for several hours, without the Original noticing.
