Warning! The Vampire Diaries spoilers from Season 4, Episode 21, “She’s Come Undone” below! Don’t read if you haven’t watched!
Whew! We need to catch our breath after that episode. First, we had two near-death experiences. Well, we didn’t. Matt (Zach Roerig) and Sheriff Forbes did. Still, we think our hearts stopped for a few seconds there.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tried every trick in the book to get Elena (Nina Dobrev) to flip her humanity switch. Torture. Mind games. Katherine (Nina Dobrev). In the end, though, it was the thought of losing her friend Matt that actually made the baby vamp feel again.
Damon kept threatening to snap Matt’s neck. Elena wasn’t convinced. Then he did it, and something inside Elena snapped, too. As she watched her childhood friend’s lifeless form, emotion started to sink in. Dread. Sadness. Guilt. Damon let her feel it all, then he held up Matt’s hand. On it was the Gilbert ring. He let the relief wash over Elena, too.
It wasn’t all sunshine and roses after that. She broke a car window and screamed her rage, frustration, and despair. Then she decided it was time for Katherine (Nina Dobrev) — her doppelganger, the vampire who killed her brother — to die.
She was the old Elena, but something was different. Are you glad she has her humanity back, or were you enjoying guilt-free E?
