Katherine (Nina Dobrev) is a lot of things, but is “reformed” really one of them? In The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 18, “American Gothic,” the doppelganger swore to anyone who would listen that she’s changed.
When Elijah (Daniel Gillies) figured out she hadn’t — the fact that she killed Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) proved that to him — he was ready to walk away from her. Before he could, she gave him the cure.
“I've spent so much time running and lying just to survive that I'm starting to believe my own lies,” she told him. “I don't even remember who I was when we first met, and I want to find out." She realizes that if she kills Klaus (Joseph Morgan), it will be over between them.
Kat tells Elijah, "I need you to trust me. I want you to trust me, just like I'm trusting you. You don't owe me anything. I'm going to let you decide where we go from here."
It seemed pretty heartfelt, but Katherine has managed to fool almost everyone at one point or another. “You fell for her trap just like every one of those other idiots,” Elena (Nina Dobrev) said to the suited-up Original earlier.
Is this just another one of Kat’s traps, or are her feelings for Elijah genuine?
