The potential (and odd) pairing of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) is starting to make a little more sense. He wants the cure so Elena (Nina Dobrev) can be human again, and Bex wants it for a similar reason: the blond Original is sick of being a vampire.

Claire Holt has been making the interview rounds in preparation for Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 10, “After School Special,” and she told The Hollywood Reporter why Rebekah is so keen to find the cure. “Rebekah has always wanted to be human; that's been hinted throughout that she wants to feel human, she wants to feel normal," Claire explains. "She's going to face that conflict of does she want to give up the vampire life, does she really want to be human badly enough? You're going to see that conflict within her."

So would the human Rebekah like a human boyfriend, aka one Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig)? Unfortunately, it sounds like that pairing is being put on hold for now. “She will always have feelings for Matt, she wanted there to be something between them but I think now that this cure has come to light, it's going to be more about that. I don't think there's much hope for Rebekah and Matt at the moment, but you never know,” says Claire.

Well, it’s probably safer for him that way...
