Something is always going on in Mystic Falls. There are hybrids to outsmart, overzealous fathers to compel, and centuries-old mysteries to solve. While many of The Vampire Diaries’  brainteasers are decoded in one episode or less, the perplexing return of Jeremy Gilbert’s (Steven R. McQueen) ghostly ex-girlfriends has stumped us for most of the season.

But in Season 3, Episode 7, “Ghost World,” the girls behind the ghosts, Kayla Ewell (Vicki Donovan) and Malese Jow (Anna) say all will be revealed.

First off, both actresses say their characters returned for love — Anna came back for Jeremy and Vicki for her brother, Matt (Zach Roerig).

Secondly, Malese stands by what her character told Jeremy back when she first popped up. She truly believes Vicki’s up to no good and thinks the last episode stands as a testament to her selfish ways.

"If people were gray about it before, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' made it black and white. Vicki had ulterior motives that weren't very good,” Malese said. But Ewell disagrees. "Vicki has the best intentions, but doesn't always handle them correctly," she says.

Unfortunately, Vicki’s desperate attempt to become human (or something like that) again ended very badly last week, but Malese teases tonight’s episode will clear up any unanswered questions fans have about the characters’ ghostly limitations. "The question everyone's been having this whole time — 'Do they have the capability to come back?' — we're getting closer and closer to that answer," Jow says.

We don’t know exactly what that means, but Kayla did say she’s flying back to Atlanta to film next week — so we have a pretty good feeling Vicki won’t be MIA for long. For better or worse!
