It’s been a rough year on The Vampire Diaries. We lost both Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) — though maybe not forever?

Many fans feel emotionally wrung out at this point, but the season isn’t over yet. The show’s executive producer Julie Plec warned on Twitter that Mystic Falls’ deadly reputation may be even more well deserved by the finale.

A follower wrote, “do me a favor @julieplec ? give a clear warning next time a main character dies, alaric and jeremys almost killed me. Ok ily bye x.” Julie did just that when she replied, “you may want to skip the finale.  Or hide behind a box of Kleenex.”

Gulp. We used all our tissues after Jeremy died!

So who could the unlucky Mystic Fallsian (Fallser?) be? There are lots of possibilities. Someone could get on the wrong side of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) before he heads off to New Orleans for good (should The Originals get picked up for a full series). Bonnie (Kat Graham) might actually die for real from one of her powerful spells. Matt (Zach Roerig) could — no, we don’t even want to think about losing the last (human) man standing.

But we could lose someone all over again. It seems more and more likely Silas’s plan to lower the veil between this world and the Other Side will succeed — and that means we may see Jeremy, Lexi, and maybe even Alaric (Matt Davis) again. But if that condition is only temporary, those dearly departed may vanish before our eyes once more.

We’re going to need more tissues, STAT.
