We love those moments on The Vampire Diaries that make us gasp, pause, and rewind — and Season 4, Episode 11, “Catch Me If You Can,” is chock full of them. Here are the scenes that left our jaws agape.

5. Matt almost dies (again)
The night started with Matt (Zach Roerig) tearing through the woods in the darkness, literally running for his life. Why? To force Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) into killing his newly created vampires, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) compelled them to go after the QB. One of the vamps actually caught up to Matt and took a plug out of his neck. Ugh! Sometimes we think the cost of friendship is way too high in Mystic Falls.

4. Rebekah and Stefan rekindle an old flame
Remembering the good ol’ days is the first step, and Rebekah (Claire Holt) made sure Stefan (Paul Wesley) took it. The Original sister put their alone time searching Shane’s (David Alpay) office to good use when, every chance she got, she tasked Stefan to talk about the Roaring ‘20s days when they were a couple. When Stefan refused to light up Shane’s magic weed, she flirtatiously asked, “What happened to you?” A few minutes later Bex got Stef to cop to the fun times they had hanging out at Gloria’s jazz club and their frequent, ahem, no-strings-attached nightcaps. “The sex wasn’t good because we didn’t care. It was good because you’re crazy,” Stefan said.  “Crazy sex is always good.” Amen to that.

3. Bonnie loses it in front of her dad
In her defense, we all know the witch of Mystic Falls has a fiery temper. And Bonnie (Kat Graham) did warn Shane. Still, the nutty professor taunted Bon-Bon into joining him on the crazy side when he told her that she’s the reason Grams’s soul was being tortured in the afterlife. “I said don’t!” Bonnie repeated. First she magically contorted Shane’s arm. Then, when her dad barged in to stop her, she threw a few flames on the floor. “Get! Out!” she yelled. For the record: Bonnie hasn’t tried to set anyone on fire in a long time. So, we forgive her when, annoyed by Shane, she lights up a few feet. We’d do the same thing.

2. Damon tries to kill Jeremy (again)
“Jeremy, run!” Damon (Ian Somerhalder) warned. It was not supposed to be funny. But it so was. Compelled by Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) to kill Jeremy, Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) new boyfriend hunted her brother in the most hilarious of ways — by calling out a play-by-play as he stalked him in through the tunnels beneath Mystic Falls. “I am coming to kill you,” Damon shouted in tone that suggested, “Hey, let’s hang out.” This is The Vampire Diaries. So, of course, very serious things followed: Jeremy tried to trap Damon but ended up getting bit in the arm. Next, he had to shoot the elder Salvatore in the head. Still, we laughed. And we blame Damon’s tone. “Stop? I’m going to kill you?”

1. Stefan makes a booty call
The youngest Salvatore had just: a) Saved Jeremy from Damon; b) locked his big brother in the family dungeon; c) “bled” said brother; then d) pretended that he didn’t care when Elena came to check on his big brother without giving him another thought. So it is no wonder that Stefan headed over to Rebekah’s place. He claimed he was coming to check on the headstone to Silas’s grave. But Bex knew the real deal. And she didn’t mind. That’s why minutes later, after making a “no attachment, no emotions” pledge, they hit the sheets. Literally.
