Vampire Diaries Season 4 has been all about the cure: finding it, fighting over it, and, in Rebekah’s case, taking it — only to realize it was a fake.
Sadly, Rebekah’s continued status as a vampire has made her largely unlucky in love. Though the blonde Original has done some pretty nasty things in the past, we not-so-secretly hope she finds romance... particularly with a certain blonde human.
In Season 4, Episode 19, we finally saw a turning point in the relationship between Rebekah and Mystic Falls’ resident busboy, Matt Donovan. “Matt’s starting to realize that Rebekah has some redeeming qualities,” actress Claire Holt reveals to TV Line. “She really, truly just wants to be loved and feel normal. [...] She’s starting to make decisions that are less in line with how she used to behave and more in line with the new person that she wants to be.”
So, can we assume that Rebekah has real feelings for the Prom King, or this just another one of her manipulations? “To be fair, I think she likes the idea of him,” Claire explains. “There was a line in the prom episode where she says, ‘You’re so beautifully human.’ That’s everything that she wants to be, so she’s [...] almost convincing herself that those are her true feelings when in fact they may not be.”
Despite Rebekah’s confusing emotions, Claire seems to think that Matt will eventually come around, and perhaps convince her to really change her ways. “He’s still angry at her for the way she’s betrayed a lot of his close friends. And yet, he feels something that draws himself to her and he doesn’t know what it is.”
Whether or not Rebekah finds love with Matt, Claire hopes she finds love with someone — and it certainly doesn’t hurt if the guy is hot! “It’s not the hardest thing in the world to have a line of good-looking men to go through like I have on The Vampire Diaries — Stefan and Damon and now potentially Matt.”
If you want to know our opinion, we think Rebekah and Matt would make the cutest blonde babies on the planet. (If she can get the cure and actually be able to procreate, that is.) “[The relationship] may be worth investigating,” Claire says... and we’d have to agree!
