Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) has loved his share of bloodsuckers on The Vampire Diaries. In fact, he even tried to become one. But lately his attitude has shifted to be more like his Gilbert ancestors in that he kind of thinks most people need to be protected from the deadly creatures.
Now that his sister, Elena (Nina Dobrev), has joined their ranks, we don’t expect him to change his tune much. Sure, he’ll always love his sister — and tease her about her fangs, as is his right as her little bro — but he was trying to get her away from all the monster madness when she went over Wickery Bridge.
That’s probably going to cause some guilt, but it also might make him snap. Steven told Fanbolt, “[H]e'll start to explode a little more this season and hopefully take charge. Fight back a little!” While Jer lopped the head off a hybrid in Season 3, his Season 4 promo photo shows him posing next to a crossbow. Could Jeremy be picking up where vamp-hunting Alaric (Matt Davis) left off?
"Jeremy is going to be becoming something new that I think the fans will really like," Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett) told E! Online. So, either a vampire hunter or the owner of a shelter for abandoned dogs (in honor of the pup he left behind in Denver)?
But regardless of whether they get back together or not, Jeremy will be having a lot of interactions with Bonnie. "You get to see them have some scenes together in the first episode, which is really cool, and we've had a lot of scenes since," says Kat. "[But] I think it's yet to be determined. I think it was such a heartbreak for the character when she discovered that he was having an affair with a ghost. She's got a lot of mending and healing to do. So she might give him another chance, or she might think that friendship is really where they should remain."
Speaking of Jeremy’s ghostly indiscretions, Zap2It hints that Jeremy can see something else others can’t. Yeah, we have no idea what that means, either.
Jeremy’s grown up a lot in the past year, and we don’t expect him to retreat to his room with a sketchpad and emo tunes any longer. Instead, the little Gilbert will likely want to take a more active role in all the mayhem that’s going on. As one of the few humans left, Jeremy won’t find himself in the Founder’s Council’s crosshairs, so he might be an integral part cleaning up that mess.
Let’s just hope that whatever happens, Jer doesn’t get shipped off to Denver, military school, or an early grave.
