We’re with Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Creepy Professor Shane (David Alpay) clearly wants something more than academic glory for finding the ancient witch Silas. So when will we find out exactly what his motivations are?

Executive producer Julie Plec tells TV Guide, “When we get back, there's a run of five episodes that is our Silas chapter and it brings everything to a head...” Sounds like there’s a still a lot more to the buried witch’s story.

He's definitely someone who is going to be representing a lot of fear and tension for the rest of the season,” Julie said when asked if Silas is the season’s Big Bad.

In Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 8, “We’ll Always Have Bourbon Street,” Nandi told Damon and Stefan (Paul Wesley) about Expression, saying, “Channeling the power of human sacrifice calls on darkness that can’t exist on this plane without swallowing it whole.” Um, that sounds like a bad thing. Are we sure the Mystic Falls calendar and the Mayan one don’t coincide?

Shane has already engineered two separate sacrifices, each involving 12 people (or hybrids): the Town Council and Klaus’s former minions. He’s either trying to resurrect Silas or he is Silas and he’s trying to bring back the “wife and son” he mentioned to Elena (Nina Dobrev). Considering he needed 24 souls, we’re thinking it’s the latter.

How much Expression does it take to raise someone from the dead — and is it enough to destroy Mystic Falls?
