As obsessive fans of The Vampire Diaries, there are many things we’ve had to perfect over the years, one of which being the perfect gasp. How else were we supposed to react to Klaus (Joseph Morgan) turning Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), Klaus killing Tyler (Michael Trevino) — OK, pretty much everything Klaus has done — and so much more?

So how many times have we gasped in Season 4? Well, we don’t exactly keep count. But we won’t forget some of the moments that elicited our go-to reaction:

Elena (Nina Dobrev) transitions: Sure, we all saw it coming. But the fact that it actually happened combined with the moment you first see her as a vampire — when she tackles Damon (Ian Somerhalder)? Yeah, it was gasp-worthy.

Grams dies (again): Between Grams’s and Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) screams, we had no other option but to gasp… and cry.

Pastor Young’s sacrifice: Blowing up the council? We did not predict that.

Connor’s (Todd Williams) tattoo: From the moment Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) commented on Connor’s non-existent tattoo, we were intrigued. And to find out that he was one of the Five? Well done, TVD. Well done.

Jeremy’s a potential hunter: What does this mean?!

There’s a cure for vampirism: We’re sorry… WHAT?!

Connor was working with Professor Shane (David Alpay): Finding out that Professor Shane was more than just a pretty face made us both happy and sad: Happy to see more of him and sad that he appeared to be working against everyone we love.

Elena accidentally stabs Jeremy in the neck: This is probably the loudest we have gasped all year. Sorry about that one, Jer. Hallucinations suck.

Elena’s sired to Damon: We knew that Elena was acting weird and slightly annoying, but having her be sired to Damon? Talk about a shock.

Damon and Elena have sex: Did we expect a makeout? Sure. A sleepover? Sure. Sex? Not so much.

Bonnie is learning Expression: If dark magic killed her Grams, then we don’t want to imagine what this Expression is going to do to our favorite witch.

Klaus murders his hybrids… and then Carol: We had spent the entire season thinking that the hybrid sacrifice plan was all about going against Klaus, so imagine our surprise when he was the one to complete the sacrifice. And then killing poor Carol out of anger? Cue the gasp.

While we catch our breath from this season, tell us your favorite OMG moment from Season 4 so far!
