*Warning! Spoilers for Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 4 ahead!*
It’s been too long since we’ve seen Elijah (Daniel Gillies) on The Vampire Diaries — let alone with his bulging biceps showing through a homespun vest. The Original Vampire skedaddled out of Mystic Falls after he had a moral lapse in judgment where Elena (Nina Dobrev) is concerned. (Nobody puts Elena in the tunnels.) The question is, will the impeccably coifed vamp dare to set foot back in town in Season 4?
Yes! And speaking of hair, he’ll have a new ‘do. Actually, Elijah will have an old ‘do — 900 years old, to be exact. Daniel Gillies told MTV he’s currently back on the TVD set. Before you get too amped, Elijah is just back for a flashback (for now). He’ll join Rebekah (Claire Holt) in the 1100s. Julie Plec told TV Line that Season 4, Episode 4 reveals a “big secret that will change the course of the season for everybody.”
Something that makes us optimistic about Elijah’s potential return (in the present) is what Daniel said to MTV: “As long as there's The Vampire Diaries, there has to be Elijah. He's too woven into the fabric of it now. One cannot exist without the other."
Daniel continued that Elijah provides a stabilizing force, saying, “Whenever he returns, s**t gets done.” True story. Few people can resist the persuasive power of Elijah in a suit — but the OVs might not be the biggest threat in Season 4. With talk of a new villain coming to Mystic Falls, Daniel agreed Elijah and siblings could face some completion but added, “I don't think the Originals are going to go anywhere for a little while.”
Thank goodness. We don’t what we’d do without Elijah’s mahogany ringlets.
