There’s one question we’ve seen pop up over and over again about Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) lack of humanity on The Vampire Diaries: Why can’t the Originals compel her back into feeling?
Excellent question. It was Klaus (Joseph Morgan) who forced Ripper Stefan (Paul Wesley) to shut down his feelings in Season 3. Shouldn’t the inverse work? Probably, and we hope Stefan and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) at least ask them all nicely to do so before torturing her in Season 4, Episode 21, “She’s Come Undone.”
However, we’re not sure if any of them would say yes.
Rebekah (Claire Holt) isn’t exactly fond of Elena with her emotions. In fact, humanity-free Elena is Bex’s only friend, so it seems highly unlikely the blond vamp will be in a rush to flip that switch.
Klaus has been super busy with his travel plans to New Orleans, but we imagine getting rid of Silas trumps making a hybrid army at this point. He could’ve compelled Elena back into feeling and given her the cure — or just rammed it down her throat. Now that Silas has the cure, the hybrid has no horse in the Elena Emotions race. Since when has he ever done anything selflessly?
Elijah (Daniel Gillies) — come to think of it, we don’t know why he hasn’t compelled Elena yet. The dapperest Original has always had a special connection with her, and he seemed so disappointed in her when they met in Pennsylvania. Maybe Elijah feels everyone should learn from their own mistakes? Hm. Hopefully we get an answer straight from him someday.
