We love those moments on The Vampire Diaries that make us gasp, pause, and rewind — and Season 4, Episode 3, “The Rager” is chock full of them. Here are the scenes that left our jaws agape.
5. Connor Jordan (Todd Williams) pokes Tyler (Michael Trevino)
When the vampire hunter attacked young Mr. Lockwood in his hospital room, he tranquilized him, then easily held him down on the bed. Next, Connor whipped out a syringe and went dental on the teen wolf. Rather than poison, kidnap, and torture Tyler, Connor took a sample of his venom from the gums above one of his fangs. Then left. What?
4. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) team up
You know what they say about the enemy of your enemy? Yeah, well, that doesn’t apply here. Big Bad Klaus teamed up with Sexy Bad Damon in an aisle of the storeroom at Mystic Falls General Hospital. Their shared mission was to take down the new hunter in town Connor Jordan. And they worked together well. Almost too well.
3. Elena (Nina Dobrev) has a Twilight moment
Blame it on the alcohol. After leaving Rebekah’s (Claire Holt) curfew-breaking kegger, Elena felt the need to do something wild and different — to burn off a little of that vampire rage. The idea to stand up on her boyfriend’s motorcycle hit her as Stefan (Paul Wesley) raced down the backroads of Mystic Falls. And so, she did. One foot at a time, the new vamp cautiously stepped up onto the saddle behind Stefan. She stood tall, raised her arms, put her head back and closed her eyes — proud and free of the fear of death. And yes, it was a corny ripoff of a Bella thrill ride. But we say that with love.
2. Stefan turns to Caroline (Candice Accola) for help
“You’re so good at it. Being a vampire,” Stefan told Caroline. And he was right. Vampirism turned Blondie into a more secure alpha teen — one with enough control to never eat any of her friends. That’s why, worried that partaking in the joyful moments with Elena would free The Ripper within, Stefan turned to his former student for help. Caroline was ever ready to lend a hand. “Come to me, whenever you want,” she said. “I won’t let you loose control.”
1. Conner wakes up with Klaus
No, we didn’t think the slayer was dead. But we didn’t think Connor Jordan would become the Original’s new pet project so quickly. And yet he did. A second before Damon’s bomb-trap detonated, Klaus apparently hybrid-vamped the “one-of-the-five” hunter to safety. Moments before the episode ends, Connor wakes up with Klaus by his side. “You don’t know your history, do you,?” Klaus asks. “Let’s just say it’s made you the most well-protected vampire hunter in town.”
