We love Ian Somerhalder’s delectably snarky portrayal of Damon Salvatore on the Vampire Diaries. But before staking a claim in Mystic Falls, the chiseled actor brought his talents to a number of other shows.

Ian’s debut TV appearance was a small role on the USA crime drama The Big Easy in 1997. He also had a bit part in one episode of the CBS drama Now and Again before he was cast as a series regular in the Dawson’s Creek spin-off Young Americans in 2000.

He later had a guest stint in Smallville as Adam Knight, a seemingly benevolent character who befriends Lana Lang in order to get close to Clarke Kent. Soon after, Ian landed is most notable role to date as Boone Carlyle in the hit series Lost. Despite being a fan favorite, his character met an early demise in Season 1, Episode 20 of the show.

Post-Lost, Ian appeared in a few made for TV movies and even snagged a juicy recurring role in the sexy HBO drama Tell Me You Love Me.

Now, of course, we get to see Ian smirk up a storm every week on TVD. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
