In Season 4, The Vampire Diaries has been experimenting with a new cold open that recaps the latest happenings in Mystic Falls. In Season 4, Episode 10, “After School Special,” some of the characters explained why they want the cure for vampirism. Here’s what they said:

Tyler (Michael Trevino): “For revenge”
Rebekah (Claire Holt): “To be human and in love”
Damon (Ian Somerhalder): “For the truth.”

Interesting, right? Not all of those jibe. It sounds like Tyler would rather destroy the cure than let Klaus (Joseph Morgan) have it. But what does that mean for everyone else?

Elena (Nina Dobrev) is a bit of a wild card. Would she take the cure to break the sire bond — and then go right back to being a vampire with, say, Caroline’s (Candice Accola) blood? But what about that blond bloodsucker? Sure, she misses her mortality from time to time, but we haven’t heard what Caroline would do with the cure.

In a clip for Season 4, Episode 11, “Catch Me If You Can,” Stefan (Paul Wesley) tells Rebekah he’s done with Elena, but what if the doppelganger was human again? Something is still pulling Stefan toward the cure.

Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) hasn’t spoken up much, but we’re guess if his sister was no longer a vampire, he’d be less inclined to stake her.

It seems like Bonnie (Kat Graham) just wants to keep the cure out of the wrong hands — unfortunately, she’s also teamed up with Professor Shane (David Alpay), who wants not the cure but the guy who created it: Silas. Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) really, really doesn’t want that ancient witch resurrected. You have to be into some messed up juju to make Kol look reasonable, Shane.

And you know the drill with Klaus (Joseph Morgan): He just wants the doppelganger blood so he can make more hybrids.

As for Matt (Zach Roerig), we have no idea... but maybe he’d go for a human Rebekah?
