Corbin Bleu’s good friend and fellow High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens may not have had her turn cheering him on from the audience just yet on Dancing With the Stars 2013, but she’s been keeping close tabs on his performances. And, as everyone watching knows, they’ve been impressive. Already considered a strong contender for the Mirror Ball, Corbin and partner Karina Smirnoff’s recent Quickstep was described as “one for the record books” by judge Bruno Tonioli. (Before that was their HSM-themed Jive, of course.)
Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Vanessa at Ulta Beauty’s “Donate with a Kiss” event benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in NYC on October 4. She opened up to us about why the cause is so important to her — and whether we’ll see her in the DWTS audience before the season is through!
Wetpaint Entertainment: Has someone in your life been affected by breast cancer?
Vanessa Hudgens: My grandma actually passed away from breast cancer. I never met her, she actually passed away a couple of days after I was born. It’s just very prevalent and the only way we’re going to get answers is through research and to do research you need funds. So it’s nice to be able to just support and raise awareness.
Have you been watching Corbin on Dancing with the Stars?
I have! He’s killing it! He’s been so amazing. He’s always been such an incredible dancer. From the beginning, we’ve always told him what an incredible dancer he is. I’m glad he’s really putting his skills to the test.
Do you think he has a chance of becoming the Season 17 champ?
A chance? More like a definite!
Any chance we’ll see you in the audience one of these days?
I want to! I really, really want to. The first night of the show, I was working and now I’m here in New York. If I can get back over to L.A. in time, then maybe!
