We’ve already discussed the likelihood that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is the hottest vampire currently biting necks on TV, but getting Dracula filmed wasn’t as easy as swooning over JRM.
In fact, NBC had to do a little legal footwork to make sure their leading man fulfilled his commitment to the new series. If he didn’t, Jonathan would forfeit the majority of his sizable salary (an estimated $100,000 per episode).
Why was NBC so worried the 36-year-old star would bolt before the show wrapped? We asked Viggle LIVE! users and the majority didn’t realize this was even a thing; 40 percent said Jonathan’s salary wasn’t withheld. Yeah, he wishes.
Only a slightly smaller group of voters — 39 percent — picked the correct answer: Jonathan’s history of substance abuse gave NBC all the reason it needed to keep the money in the bank before handing it over to the actor. Instead, the channel doled out per diem payments and other small amounts until all ten episodes finished filming in Budapest last summer.
The remaining 21 percent of votes went to the explanation that Jonathan missed several days of production. That’s actually a little bit true seeing as the Irish actor is said to have had a “meltdown” during filming and was even flown to London to be “hospitalized for a short time.” Now, thankfully, Jonathan is reportedly in “a really good place” — him and his $1 million paycheck.
