Vince Gilligan on Writing Breaking Bad Finale: “I Actually Cried”

We can’t believe that Breaking Bad is ending soon, and apparently, neither can showrunner Vince Gilligan.

The creator, producer, writer, and director of the acclaimed series came clean about the last episode of the series, which will air this summer, at a panel of showrunners in Los Angeles hosted by Nerdist.

"I haven't told my crew this. I actually cried writing the end – 'The end' on the last episode," he said. "I haven’t since then."

Aww! We feel like crying now! But that’s not the only dish that Vince had on the long-anticipated Breaking Bad finale. While many have speculated that with the show’s calculated writing and plot twists, the staff has known the ending for quite some time. Vince was quick to debunk the rumor.

“We sat around in the writer’s room for thousands of man hours playing a game of chess, saying, ‘If we move the character from here to here to here, what happens? What’s the counter-move?’” he said. “Essentially we said, ‘What are all the possible endings we can come up with?' And then, ‘What is the ending that satisfies us the most?’”

Now we really can’t wait! Breaking Bad’s fifth and final season resumes on AMC on August 11.
