How Old Was Chandler Riggs When He Was Cast on The Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead first debuted on television back on Halloween night 2010 and now we’re more than halfway through Season 4 and the AMC show is more successful than ever before. The cast has changed from season to season — in the past Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) has joked about how much more grey hair he has now — but no cast member has aged more than Chandler Riggs, who plays Rick’s son Carl Grimes.

During the February 23 episode of TWD Wetpaint asked Viggle LIVE! users if they knew how old Chandler was when he was cast on the show, and a whopping 71 percent of those who responded guessed that Chandler was just ten when he booked the crucial role. Another 20 percent of you thought he was eleven, while the final nine percent believed he was twelve years old when he joined the cast.

We’re impressed by how many of you got this question right, but we’re even more in awe of the fact that Chandler had just hit double digits when he nabbed a starring role on TWD. Even now he’s only fourteen but totally proving that he can act alongside greats like Andrew and Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon).

Sure, we may call Carl annoying at times, but there’s no denying that Chandler brings some great qualities to the role and has really taken Carl beyond a petulant teenager. Season 4 has been his best so far and there are even more twists and turns to come for Carl and his pops. As long as Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) thrown in there too then we’re happy!
