‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Adds Xander Berkeley in Mystery Role
Less than a week after three actors on The Walking Dead were promoted to series regulars ahead of the premiere of Season 6, the AMC drama has added another new face to the mix!
Actor Xander Berkeley, who has recently appeared on TV shows like 24, Salem, Zoo, and Longmire, will be joining TWD Season 6 in an unspecified, recurring role with potential to stick around for quite some time.

According to TVLine, Xander will not be playing much-buzzed about villain Negan, but the as-of-yet unnamed character he will portray shares some characteristics with the infamous TWD comic book baddie.
The site notes Xander’s character shares Negan’s “narcissism, huge ego and self-preservation,” and relishes the superiority that comes with being in control but plays it off with a “car salesman-type charm.”

Now for our speculation.
TVLine came out with a tease for this character earlier this month and assumed it was for Negan, but we hypothesized this description was talking about Hilltop Colony leader Gregory instead. Now that we know Negan is not in the mix, it turns out our theory might be correct.
NEWS: Rumor Patrol: Is Andy Lincoln Leaving TWD?
We know the Hilltop Colony will be a featured locale in Season 6, so Gregory’s presence is very likely. The vain character made his debut in Issue No. 95 of the TWD comics and — spoiler alert! — dies in Issue No. 140 after he’s hanged for the attempted murder of Maggie Greene, who’s played by Lauren Cohan on the small screen.
TVLine says Xander will make his TWD debut in the second half of Season 6 (which won’t air until early next year) and has the option of becoming a series regular in Season 7. It certainly sounds like he’s playing comic book Gregory to us!
