The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) changed up his appearance last season upon arriving at the Alexandria Safe Zone and shaving off his legendary beard, and now, as we head into Season 6, it looks as if the dangerous and disgusting walkers are getting a bit of an upgrade as well!

AMC just released not one but two photos of some new walkers in action, and trust us when we tell you these guys are more disgusting than anything we’ve seen from the hit show thus far. In the photo above — snapped by special effects guru Greg Nicotero and is from the TWD Season 6 premiere — the walker’s formerly bloody and once gooey insides have fused with a tree, which very well might have caused his demise.

If you look closely you can see just how close the branches of the tree and the walker’s guts are intertwined. In fact, it looks like this guy has been dead for so long that the tree has started to grow around him. The grey hair on his head was a solid clue as well.

As Greg explained back in April, he envisioned a time when older, more rotted walkers wouldn’t be able to move, and it looks like that’s exactly what we’re going to see. “I would say that we will get to a point eventually where some of the older more rotted walkers aren't going to be able to move. But the sad part about that is there's constantly new people dying, and the fact that they're continuing to replenish the hordes, I think it will be hard to ever get to a point where it's like, 'Oh let's just wait this out and eventually they'll all rot and we'll be fine,’” he said.

The second walker, who we’ll meet in Season 6, Episode 3, has an extremely decayed face and is missing practically his entire nose and large chunks of his jaw. His forehead is in slightly better shape, but it’s clear it is slowly decaying as well. Interestingly enough, from what we can see of the flannel shirt this walker is wearing, his clothes are in much better condition. We can’t wait to see what else Greg comes up with!

The Walking Dead Season 6 premieres with a 90-minute episode on October 11 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
