Negan makes his highly-anticipated debut in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale this Sunday. While it’s rumored he’ll kill one of our beloved characters we won’t know the identity of his first victim until the Season 7 premiere this fall.

In the comics Negan kills Glenn Rhee when he first meets a bunch of Rick Grimes’s group. For a long while we thought the TV show was going to follow that storyline to a T, but as Negan’s debut draws closer we wonder if the big bad might kill someone else instead in one of those remixed approaches showrunner Scott Gimple loves so much.

Honestly, at this point, our opinion on who Negan might murder first changes hourly.

There are plenty of theories out there to suggest Glenn won’t get his head bashed in, but consider this tidbit from a recent Hollywood Reporter article: According to the trade publication, actor Steven Yeun, AKA Glenn, signed a one-year deal that covers only Season 6.

Now, TV contracts are weird and this one-year extension could mean nothing, or it could be yet another clue that Glenn’s time on the successful show is up.

If we don’t actually know who Negan kills until next season (and it’s Glenn) then Steven will probably have to be around for the Season 7 premiere at least, but negotiations are likely different on an episode-to-episode basis.

Speaking of comic book Issue No. 100 — AKA Glenn’s death issue — Scott tells THR, “I feel a great deal of pressure but it's pressure from myself because I remember reading it. It's some of Robert's best writing ever and I would not be too proud of myself if I chumped it.”

We have faith Scott did a good job translating Robert’s work from the page to the small screen, but that doesn’t mean we’re looking forward to what he came up with, remixed or not!

The 90-minute Walking Dead Season 6 finale airs Sunday April 3 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
