We’ve discussed why Negan might kill Glenn in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale, there’s rumors Daryl could be his mark, and we’ve even outlined why Carol is in danger — but what about Rick Grimes?

In Robert Kirkman’s comics off of which TWD is based, Glenn takes a baseball bat to the head, but Steven Yeun and others have strongly suggested the show could remix that memorable storyline and kill off another character in Glenn’s place.

We’ve long assumed Rick was safe, despite the Powers That Be’s declaration that anyone could die at any time, but a new tease from Lauren Cohan, AKA Maggie Greene, has us wondering how much longer the fearless leader will be around.

“It’s the biggest finale I’ve ever seen in television — in any episode of TV — maybe barring the last episode of The Sopranos, but that’s a different kind of fish,” the actress told ET Online of the Season 6 ender.

If Lauren is calling the TWD Season 6 finale the “biggest” ever, then you better believe something really big and groundbreaking is going down. We don’t think she’d use those powerful words if anyone but the show’s main character perished.

It’s also worth noting that one could argue the series has actually subtly been preparing for Rick’s death. As Inquisitir points out, the key art for this season features Rick and Morgan Jones both front and center, which suggests the aikido master might take on a leadership role.

Let’s also not forget the little family Rick has established with MichonneCarl Grimes and baby Judith. If Rick were to die it would be devastating for his kids, but it’s clear Michonne would make sure they’re loved and taken care of.

What’s more? Andrew Lincoln’s reaction to reading the finale script is pretty telling.

“I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script,” he said. “It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t get back to sleep.”

Plus, if Negan wanted to kill someone whose death would really have a profound emotional and practical impact on our group, why wouldn’t he kill the leader?!

Based on unconfirmed spoiler info for the finale we have a hunch the 90-minute episode will actually end on a cliffhanger and we won’t know who Negan killed until October, but this is something to mull over while you wait for the next episode!
