‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 Promos: Watch the Trailers, Preview Clips and More
With the sixth season of The Walking Dead now nearly underway, we thought it would be a good time to analyze all of the promos, sneak peeks, and trailers AMC has given us thus far. Keep in mind we’ll also be updating this article as more videos are released, so be sure to add it to your bookmarks.
NEWS: ‘Walking Dead’ Season 6: Negan Cast? Not So Fast!
The holy grail of sneak peeks is, of course, the Comic Con trailer, which debuted at San Diego Comic Con in July just before the star-studded TWD panel.
At over four minutes long this is the most in-depth look at Season 6 we have thus far, and while there’s no need to do another incredibly detailed analysis of this gem, we recommend you watch the clip when you can and pay special attention to Rick Grimes’ tension with Ethan Embry’s character and Daryl Dixon’s troubling encounter with some gnarly enemies at the very end.
Though we didn’t know this when the Comic Con trailer was first released, we now have reason to believe Ethan’s character is a remix of Nicholas from the TWD comics, not to be confused with the Nicholas we’ve already met (and dislike) on the show.
NEWS: ‘Walking Dead’ Cast Reveals Season 6 Spoilers, Premiere Details
In the comics, Nicholas is an outspoken critic of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick who attempts to turn many of his fellow Alexandrians against our fearless leader. Though we initially thought Rick would be clashing with Morgan Jones, played by the wonderful Lennie James, we now believe Nicholas is the real foe at the start of the season.
As for Norman Reedus’s protagonist Daryl, the Comic Con trailer strongly suggests his days might be numbered. However, we have strong suspicions that’s just The Powers That Be playing with our emotions. Other characters may not be so lucky.
NEWS: ‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 Midseason Finale: Spoilers Die, Someone Else Loses an Eye
Another trailer, released late last month, is void of any plot details but does provide a creepy look at some of our other TWD favorites including Maggie Greene, played by Lauren Cohan, and Glenn Rhee, aka Steven Yeun, both of whom look particularly badass.
The song choice — “We Carry On” by The Phantoms — seems to allude to the uphill battle ahead for our survivors as they rid Alexandria of walkers and attempt to deal with both internal and external threats in their continued fight to stay alive.
NEWS: Walking Dead Star Speaks on Claims the Show Is Racist
Last but not least, TWD showrunner Scott Gimple brought an exclusive clip of the Season 6 opener with him when he appeared on the special episode of Talking Dead that aired right before the series premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on August 23.
The clip itself is kind of a throwaway moment between Abraham Ford, played by Michael Cudlitz, and Sasha, aka Sonequa Martin-Green, but Scott assured us that was only because every other moment of the 90-minute premiere was too spoiler-ific to share.
If that tease doesn’t get you psyched for the TWD Season 6 opener then we don’t know what will!
The Walking Dead Season 6 airs Sunday nights at at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
