‘The Walking Dead’ Execs Talk That Comic Book Time Jump
After the events of the war against Negan The Walking Dead comic books see a major time jump.
But will we see the same thing on the show?
First of all, we likely wouldn’t see a jump until Season 9, since we still have to get through the rest of the war, after all.
Still, the possibility of a jump is already weighing on showrunners’ minds.
Executive producer Scott Gimple realizes a certain kind of viewer will be banking on this plotline. "For the people who read the comics, they're going to be expecting this.”
That doesn’t mean you can expect things to go down exactly as they do in the comics.
"We're doing the book, we do all sorts of variations on it, and then we do things that are inspired by it and then we change things up with a remix,” Scott told The Hollywood Reporter.
But Scott admits there are certain storylines in that time jump that he can’t wait to explore.
“And thus we might see some of that stuff; it might not be the same sort of jump, or we'll do that two to five years in real time."
Show and comic creator Robert Kirkman weighed in on the possibility as well, saying he and Scott discuss the future of the show all the time.
“We need to know these things and being able to know these things years in advance is what helps us make this show possible. So we've discussed everything."
Executive producer David Alpert was amused by Robert’s answer, claiming it one of the “best evasive answers” he’d ever heard.
OK, so the producers aren’t willing to spill the beans on the potential time jump just yet, but it’s a definitely a possibility.
