It’s pretty safe to sayThe Walking Dead Season 4 is going to give us a very different zombie experience.
A while back, producer Gale Anne Hurd teased some changes in the new season: "We are going to amp up the threat of the walkers, because they've started to seem like a manageable threat. They are not a manageable threat.”
Gale recently talked to AMC and they asked what fans can expect from Season 4 walkers. “I think we'll have walkers who are even more ravenous than before. We're in a world where there are fewer people and more walkers, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw that on-screen this season.”
So the walkers are getting hungrier now that there are fewer survivors to chomp on. Will they adapt to the new reality by getting smarter about their attacks? Guess we’ll find out. Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) recently said, “They’ve introduced a way to make zombies scary again, and they’re terrifying. The new threat is just unreal. I can’t of course tell you what that is, but it’s brilliant writing.”
Terrifying zombies aside, AMC also asked Gale about some of the biggest challenges of producing a show like The Walking Dead. “We have serious weather issues to contend with,” Gale said. (The show is filmed in the Atlanta area.) “We had one day where there was a torrential downpour and a tree fell on the set, so you just have to roll with stuff like that. Other times, you realize that a character that you thought might live actually has to die.”
Wait, what? Who’s dying? Do you think she meant someone in the past — like Andrea dying in Season 3, when her character is still alive in the comic books — or is she hinting to an upcoming death? The Powers That Be said even Rick Grimes could die at any point but we didn’t really believe that. Still … there were a lot of surprising deaths in Season 3, so we have to brace ourselves for more of the same in Season 4, especially if the walkers are more “ravenous” than ever.
Do you think a central character will die this season?
